How much time does a home inspection require?
The average home inspection in America takes between two and three hours. Probably 90% of the 15,000-plus inspections we’ve performed since 1990 have required between two and three hours.
We strongly recommend that you invest the time to attend your home inspection. Ask questions, learn more about the safety features of the home, as well as any issues the home might have. Your experienced, knowledgeable home inspector can be an invaluable resource.
We’ve heard that a few area home inspectors are now taking as long as five hours to inspect an average home. Unless the home is a mansion, this is ridiculous. A longer inspection doesn’t necessarily mean a better, more thorough inspection. It typically means that the home inspector doesn’t have the same level of experience as the average inspector.

A smaller home or condo can require a little less time, but every home has components that will need to be inspected. A one-hour home inspection is a rushed inspection. A one-hour inspection will often miss things that will cost the homeowner in the future. A quick inspection does not allow enough time to be thorough.
